The final delivery of the new trilogy of 'Star Wars' will begin its filming at the end of July for a premiere planned in 2019.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has already been on theaters for more than two months. It's time for fans to devote their obsession to the latest film in the current trilogy of the saga, the film that is now known simply (in English) as Star Wars Episode IX .
JJ Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens in 2015, returns to direct Episode IX. The filmmaker appeared on Wednesday night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to share good news with fans.
"We have the script ready, which is very important for me," Abrams told Colbert, adding that the filming of the film will begin next July. "Having a script ready in advance is something we've never had the luck to have, but this story I'm writing with (screenwriter) Chris Terrio, who is great and I'm having a great time."
Abrams acknowledged that he knows how important this series of films is to many people, and that the reaction of fans can be severe.
"Being back for Episode IX is very surreal, and totally exciting," he said. "As chilling as it is to stand in front of the firing squad, the opportunity is always more relevant than fear."
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to premiere on December 20, 2019.
