Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday briefly met former leader Olusegun Obasanjo in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where both leaders are attending the African Union Summit. This is the first time the leaders met since Obasanjo wrote an open letter to Buhari asking him not to seek re-election in the 2019 election. Obasanjo, who ruled the West African nation between 1999 and 2007, in his letter called Buhari out on failures from his reign, particularly on economy matters and his fight against corruption. Buhari and Obasanjo are reported to have talked briefly before parting ways. The incumbent has been in office since May 2015, but spent a major part of 2017 struggling with sickness. He travelled to London on two separate occasions to seek medical treatment for an undisclosed illness, where he spent more than 100 days. During his stay in the U.K. vice president Yemi Osinbajo was left in charge, but still answered to the President. Osinbajo even visited Buhari in London to update him on various progresses back home. Several other leaders are also in Addis Ababa for the AU Summit, including Jacob Zuma (South Africa), Hailemariam Desalegn (Ethiopia), Uhuru Kenyatta (Kenya), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (Egypt), Hage Geingob (Namibia), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Mohamed Abdulahi (Somalia), Ali Bongo Ondimba (Gabon), and more.
